Allendale-Fairfax High School (AFHS) serves approximately 300 students in grades nine through twelve. The school’s motto is “ Pride, Progress, and Purpose” which reflects the school's drive to help all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristic of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We, at AFHS, accomplish this by pushing toward providing a high-quality education in a technology-rich environment. AFHS Career and Technology department is located in a separate wing of the main building. The career classes include cosmetology, health science, and auto mechanics.
AFHS has set high expectations for student attendance, graduation rates, retention/promotion and performance in the classroom. All low performing students are given the opportunity to attend extra help, pull-out, one-to-one tutoring, and/or other catch-up initiatives that ensure a successful transition from high school to post-secondary education and careers. The school uses platforms such as the APEX Learning and the SC Virtual School program to help students succeed. College-level courses are also offered to students through USC-Salkehatchie. A pre-engineering program has continued through a partnership with Denmark Technical College. Other opportunities available to students include an after-school program of enrichment/remediation classes to prepare students for the ACT and WIN assessments. Classes are also offered to help students prepare for End of Course tests in different subject areas. The school utilizes Mastery Connect Benchmark Tests, which is a nationally recognized assessment program. Student achievement is recognized via the school's website and quarterly recognition ceremonies. Teachers and the administration have departmental and team meetings to discuss ways to improve student achievement and school culture and climate. Clubs and organizations at the school include National Honor Society (NHS), BETA, HOSA, Community Service, and Student Government Association (SGA). In the area of community service, students participate in providing services at the local nursing home, American Red Cross Blood Drives, Adopt-A-Highway, food drives and donations for needy families. Our athletic programs consist of football, basketball, track and field, volleyball, and cheerleading. All efforts for student achievement are focused on what is best for students as we continue to strive to reach higher academic and social goals.
