Dr. Vallerie Coath Cave, Transformational Education Leader
Dr. Vallerie Coath Cave, a native of Allendale County and a 1978 graduate of Allendale-Fairfax High School. She taught at Allendale Primary for 8 years as a 1st grade teacher. She currently serves as the Superintendent of Allendale County Schools and is loving every minute being home and leading the district. She is the daughter of Clara M. Coath and the later Sheriff Francis Coath Jr.
She is an educator of 35 years. She received her BS Degree from Baptist College at Charleston and Master’s Degree from the University of South Carolina in Early Childhood Education. She earned her Doctorate Degree from Walden University in Educational Leadership and Curriculum Studies. She has served as a Superintendent of Schools, Associate Superintendent, principal, assistant principal, curriculum specialist, program supervisor, curriculum director, executive director and teacher for a total of 35 years in education. She participated in the Executive Leadership Institute at Harvard University and is a graduate of the America Association of Schools Administrator’s National Aspiring Superintendents Academy. Dr. Cave served as the Vice President of Business Development for the International Based Edu Tone Corporation focusing on technology, data analysis and strategic planning. She is a part-time Contributing Faculty Member at Walden University. She also serves as a Program Ambassador for the Early Childhood Program at Harvard University. Her expertise is School Transformation. She led and supervised district’s most challenging schools in Leadership and School Improvement. Under her leadership 80% of the schools were removed from the state underperforming list and changed state identifications due to increases in student achievement. Additionally, two of her schools received the National Green Ribbon Award Recognition under her leadership. She believes in and plans for Economic Development and expanding opportunities for students and families to be successful. Some of her achievements have included: Chairperson Lowcountry Superintendent’s Consortium, SC Superintendent Executive Committee Appointment, South Carolina Afterschool Alliance Executive Committee, South Carolina Artisans Board, President Elect for Georgia ASCD, Member of Leadership Council for National ASCD, Member of the Georgia Governor’s Task Force for College Readiness Under her tenure as principal her school received awards to include Title One Distinguished School and Georgia Notable School of Improvement.
She has received the Spirit of Leadership Award from Job Corps, Transformation Leadership Award from Information Transport Solution for three consecutive years and the Georgia Medical Society Health Heroes Award for her work with Curtis V. Cooper Health Care. Her community service includes an International Service Organization, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She is also a member of the Grace Chapel AME Church in Beaufort, SC where she serves as the musician and director of the Inspirational Choir. She is a member of Ruth Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Allendale County, Prince Hall Affiliation.
She loves to read, play the piano and sing. Her greatest joy comes from spending time with her family to include her mother, her two sons, Francis and Ryan Cave, her daughters in law Lindley and Natachsa and six adorable grandchildren: Ryan, Rylee, Jayden, Tayten, Kayden, and Jaylen.
