Congratulations to our coaches Travis Lewis and Jonathan Williams for being named as coaches for the High School Blitz Senior Showcase game. This game brings together the best senior football athletes in the state for an East versus West matchup. They will both be coaching Eastern stars, with Lewis as the head coach. The game will be held on Sunday, January 11th at 1:00 PM at Airport High School.
We are proud to announce one of our senior football players, Tre'Quan Jenkins, will be playing in the annual Border Bowl this weekend! The game is set up for 1 PM at Harlem High School. Jenkins has earned a spot on the South Carolina team as one of the best athletes in the state. We congratulate and wish him the best of luck at the game.
We concluded our professional development day with trainings on writing, co-teaching, and a virtual Zearn tutorial. Our teachers have spent the day learning and engaging, so that they are equipped for our students' return on Thursday. The dedication and collaboration shown today reflect their deep commitment to student success. We’re excited to use these skills in the classroom and to educate with purpose and confidence.
We’re off to a strong start in 2026! Today, we welcomed our teachers back as they engaged in professional development sessions to prepare for our students’ arrival. Our Winter Concert at Allendale-Fairfax Elementary School was an original production featuring a breaking news theme and performances representing diverse cultures. The program included selections from our kindergarten, third grade, and fourth- and fifth-grade chorus groups, as well as our faculty choir. Our related arts teachers thoughtfully incorporated multiple elements of the arts, highlighting music, dance, visual art, and media. A special holiday edition of our Mindful Moment segment reminded us how to stay positive during the holiday break. The show was worth seeing and a wonderful celebration of creativity, culture, and community.
Last night marked the final performance of A Winter’s Tale by the AFMHS Chorus, and they performed to a packed house! The program fused together holiday carols and gospel sounds, creating an uplifting energy that filled the room. Our Band also gave their first public performance, featuring saxophonist Bo Gardner, along with a special cameo by our Superintendent, Dr. Vallerie Cave. We are grateful to everyone who came out to support the show, and we hope you truly enjoyed the experience!
Our teachers and bus drivers went all out decorating our hallways for the holidays! Their festive and creative designs brought joy to our students and staff as they walk through the buildings. Each year, our staff competes for the best display to win a prize. We love seeing their personalities and interests shine through the decorations and we cannot wait to see who wins!
We are deeply grateful for Jack Logan’s visit to our high school on yesterday. During his time with us, Mr. Logan shared his condolences and expressed heartfelt sorrow for our fallen student, Andre Gadson, who tragically lost his life to gun violence last year. He spoke with our students about the importance of gun safety, the use of gun locks, and making smart decisions to avoid dangerous situations.
Mr. Logan also partnered with local and state representatives to bless our scholars with gift cards just in time for the holidays. Seniors received $25 for pledging to stand against gun violence, while underclassmen received $10, and gift cards were also shared with our school community. We truly appreciate Mr. Logan for making the trip and for speaking on an issue that continues to deeply impact our community.
