College classes don’t have to wait until after high school. We are proud to offer dual enrollment courses through our partnership with the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie campus. Yesterday marked the first day of the semester, and we were excited to see our students on this journey! These courses provide the opportunity to graduate with an associate’s degree while gaining valuable experience.

We appreciate the Coastal Community Foundation for inviting some of our Seniors to their Summer Experience! While there, our scholars toured several campuses including Duke University, North Carolina A&T, Elon College, NC Central University, NC State, and Shaw University. Our students, De'Narie Breeland, Joronwanna Elmore, Iymesha Grayson, Zy'Nahriah Rhodes, and Zyki Priester all enjoyed visiting the various colleges. It gave them valuable insight that they can use to help make their college decisions.

We are so proud that two of our paraeducators, Ms. Calhoun and Ms. Hightower, were selected to participate in the Center's EPIC Registered Apprenticeship. While attending the event, they both soaked up knowledge and expressed their passion for teaching. Ms. Hightower was awarded a copy of "Oh the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss because her reason for joining the program was so compelling! After completing one year of the program, they will eligible to gain educator certification through an alternative certification program and serve as the teacher of record! The program is no-cost, and all interested paraeducators are welcome to apply. For more information, please contact Ms. Tonya Davis, district liaison.

Our CTE programs love hands-on learning! Today, our CDL class participated in interactive activities including a matching game, blind challenge, and vocabulary review. After studying in class, instructor Mr. Creech took students outside to see the parts in person. These exercises give students a real-world perspective and prepare them for future work. We’re proud to offer a CDL program that helps students graduate with a CDL certificate.
